I. Introduction:What is a Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer?

The Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer is a drying equipment that integrates mixing and vacuum drying. In the process of vacuum drying, the material to be dried is placed inside a sealed cylinder and continuously heated while the vacuum system pumps out air, creating a vacuum. This allows the water inside the material to diffuse to the surface due to pressure or concentration differences. The water molecules (or other non-condensing gases) gain enough kinetic energy on the surface of the material and diffuse into the low-pressure space of the vacuum chamber, overcoming molecular attraction. The vacuum pump removes the vapor, completing the separation from the solid.

The double-cone rotary vacuum dryer features a double-cone rotary tank body. In a vacuum state, steam or hot water is passed into the jacket for heating. Heat is transferred to the wet material through the inner wall of the tank, and the vapor evaporated after the wet material absorbs heat is pumped away through the vacuum pump and vacuum exhaust pipe. Since the tank is in a vacuum state and the rotation of the tank causes the material to constantly move up and down and inside and outside, the drying speed is accelerated, drying efficiency is improved, and uniform drying is achieved.

How to choose the right model:

Viscosity of the material: The viscosity of the material changes with its moisture content. High viscosity can cause the material to clump together and stick to the cylinder walls, and it may also stick to the dust collector and pipe walls after drying. Pneumatic vibration and crushing devices may be used to address this issue.

Permissible temperature of the material: This refers to the maximum temperature the material can tolerate. Exceeding this temperature may cause changes in the material’s properties, decomposition, damage, or discoloration.

Bulk density of materials: The mass of materials per unit volume is called bulk density. Since the material is a mixture of dry and wet substances, the dry component is often granular, powdered, or solid, and the spaces between dry material particles vary depending on the material’s moisture content. The bulk density of raw, wet materials and those in the drying process can differ significantly, which should be considered when selecting a dryer.

Slip angle of the material: When stacking granular or powdered materials, the angle between the inclined surface and the bottom increases to a certain point, causing the side material to slide downward. This angle, known as the slip angle of the material, is influenced by material composition, moisture content, particle size, and viscosity. When selecting a double-cone dryer, the size of the cone angle can be determined by referring to the slip angle of the material .

Drying temperature: Depending on the physical properties of the material, an appropriate drying temperature can be chosen. Typically, a variable temperature drying method is used: the temperature is low initially and gradually increases to speed up the drying process. Once the material is heated above the vaporization temperature of water, the drying speed accelerates significantly. The material is heated to the vaporization temperature under the allowable temperature range and corresponding pressure. At this stage, the material’s temperature remains constant, and the heat added is used for vaporization and other heat losses. Maintaining the pressure difference between the evaporation surface and the space ensures continuous drying. As the moisture content decreases, the evaporation rate slows, and the drying rate decreases until it reaches zero.

Working vacuum: Usually, a vacuum of 10³~10⁴ Pa is used. A higher vacuum leads to a lower vaporization temperature in the wet part of the material, resulting in a faster drying speed. However, too high a vacuum can increase the cost of the pumping system and the price of the dried material, making it less economically viable.

Rotational speed: Although faster rotation speed of the double-cone rotary vacuum dryer cylinder generally results in higher drying speed, in the early stages of drying, too fast a speed can cause the material to clump together. Therefore, a lower speed is preferred during the early stages of drying, and the cylinder’s rotation speed is increased when the surface of the material is dry. During the later stages of drying, as the moisture content decreases, the rotation speed should be appropriately reduced. Increasing the speed at this point is not beneficial for improving drying speed. Therefore, staff should monitor and adjust the drying process according to the material’s condition.

Feature of Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer:

When the dryer vessel rotates, the heat-receiving surface of the target materials is continuously replaced, accelerating the drying process and ensuring even drying of the products inside. At the same time, the material is heated indirectly to avoid contamination. Other features include a design with no internal dead angles, easy operation and cleaning, optimized sealing for better performance, and very convenient maintenance.

The double-cone rotary vacuum dryer offers the following characteristics:

During the vacuum drying process, the pressure inside the cylinder remains lower than atmospheric pressure, resulting in a small number of gas molecules, low density, and low oxygen content. This allows for the drying of drugs that are prone to oxidation while reducing the risk of bacterial contamination of the materials.
Since the temperature of the wet component during vaporization is proportional to the steam pressure, vacuum drying enables the vaporization of the wet component of the material at low temperatures. This allows for low-temperature drying, making it especially suitable for producing drugs with heat-sensitive materials.
Vacuum drying can prevent the surface hardening phenomenon that can occur with atmospheric hot air drying. This is because the pressure difference between the vacuum-dried material and the surface is significant, causing water to move quickly to the surface under the pressure gradient and preventing surface hardening.
Due to the small temperature gradient between the inside and outside of the material during vacuum drying, the wet component can move and collect independently due to reverse osmosis, effectively mitigating the separation phenomenon caused by hot air drying.

Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer Parameter:

The top angle of the double-cone rotary vacuum dryer ranges from 90° to 60° (depending on the static angle of the material), and the material’s filling rate ranges from 30% to 50%. The rotation speed of the equipment is generally determined by the formula N ≤ 42.3D½ r/min (D is the maximum rotation diameter). The heat transfer coefficient U of the jacket is independent of the operating pressure. For non-bonding materials, U ranges from 116 to 140 W/(m²·K), and for bonding materials, U ranges from 80 to 93 W/(m²·K). The heat transfer area is calculated based on the area of the material contact with the cylinder body wall. The dryer cylinder is designed according to pressure vessel standards; the inner cylinder experiences external pressure, while the outer cylinder experiences internal pressure.

How to operate Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer?

  • Check before driving:
  • Open the vacuum pump to check whether the pipe connection and stuffing box leak, whether the inlet and outlet seal is good, and whether the vacuum gauge reaction is sensitive.
  • open the cooling water valve to check the connection of the heat carrying pipe, whether the stuffing box leaks, whether the pressure gauge response is sensitive.
  • Check whether the instruments, buttons and indicators of the electric control cabinet are normal, whether the ground cable is good, whether there is leakage or short circuit.
  • fill the oil cup with grease, the starting motor is running empty, listen to the noise is normal, if not normal, should check the source of the noise, and eliminate.
  • Add the dry materials to the container (powder, fine granular and slurry materials are fed by vacuum), and then close the feed hole cover.
  • after closing the vacuum valve, open the vacuum pump, so that the drying container is negative pressure (600-755 mmHg).
  • Close the power switch, start the motor, press the working button, and the dryer begins to rotate.
  • open the heat carrier valve, let the heat carrier into the dry container interlayer, according to the process requirements test.
  • After the material is dried, close the valve of the heat carrier first, and then inject cooling water into the sandwich, and stop vacuuming after the material is cooled to room temperature. Open the vacuum valve, turn off the motor, stop the dryer rotation, open the hole cover and discharge the material.

Our payment term is T/T. 50% payment in advance, rest of 50% payment finish before the goods shipped. When we finish the machine production we will do trail test and run the machine take videos for your green light. You pay the rest of 50% payment then.

What are the different types of granulators?

In terms of processing, pelletizer can be divided into two types: wet pelletizer, which uses liquid in the processing process, and dry pelletizer, which does not use liquid. Wet granulation involves a lot of water and detergent, and the purpose is to clean the contaminated material and also to cool the machine.

Influencing factors of the drying effectiveness of Double Cone Rotary Vacuum Dryer:

Influencing factors: ① the condition of the material to be dried (such as the shape, size, storage method of the material), the moisture content, density, viscosity and other properties of the material itself. In addition, the vacuum drying speed can be improved if the initial temperature of the material is increased, the material is treated before vacuum filtration and the moisture content is reduced.
Bulk density of materials: Bulk density of materials refers to the mass of materials per unit volume. Since the material is a mixture of dry material and wet material, dry material is often granular or powdered, due to the different wet content in the material, the gap between dry material particles is also different. Therefore, the bulk density of raw wet materials and materials in the drying process is also very different, which should be paid attention to in the preparation of raw materials.
Allowable temperature of the material: Allowable temperature is the highest temperature that the material can withstand, exceeding the temperature will cause the material titer change, decomposition damage or discoloration. Heat-sensitive drugs can generally be used around 60℃.
The viscosity of the material: the viscosity of the material changes with the moisture content, the viscosity can make the material agglomerate into a block and stick to the cylinder wall, and it is easy to adhere to the dust collector and the pipe after drying. In order to solve this problem, the suspension type double-cone rotary vacuum dryer adopts the pneumatic vibration and crushing device.
Material slip Angle: When stacking granular or powdered materials, when the material pile inclined and the Angle between the bottom surface increases to a certain Angle, the phenomenon of side material sliding down will occur. The Angle between the slope of the material slide and the bottom is called the slip Angle of the material. The slip Angle is related to material composition, moisture content, particle size and viscosity. Therefore, when designing and selecting the double-cone rotary vacuum dryer, the Angle of the double-cone should be selected according to the slip Angle of the material.
The higher the vacuum degree, the more conducive to the evaporation of water at a lower temperature, but the higher the vacuum degree is not conducive to heat conduction, affecting the heating effect of the material. In order to improve the drying speed of the material, the vacuum degree should be considered comprehensively according to the characteristics of the material. Generally, the vacuum degree should not be less than 10⁴Pa.
